On April 17th during its annual IU Life Sciences Day at Kelley event, the Center for the Business of Life Sciences recognized 29 students for completing their coursework and experiential requirements to earn the Certificate in the Business of Life Sciences.
These students completed two courses, The Life Sciences Industry From Research to Patient and Global Events and Trends Impacting the Life Sciences Industry. Taught by George Telthorst, these courses, feature guests lecturers who are top executives in their fields. Topics ranged from research, intermediate & final products, services, cost containment, regulation, aging & demographics, emerging markets and digital health. It is one thing to understand marketing or finance in a classroom setting. It is another to see how trends and changes impact business decisions at life sciences companies in the “real world”. Business and science students worked together in interdisciplinary teams to help solve some of these real business decisions. In addition, students attended conferences and networking events related to the industry. The goal is to provide students with a firm foundation for the life sciences industry upon entering the workforce. A sample of some of the companies where our graduates will be putting their skills and education to use include: AbbVie, Amgen, Cardinal Health, DaVita, GSK, Eli Lilly and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
